Each month features a new curated selection of work.
I make art using ordinary materials in unpredictable ways to convey meaningful and relatable experiences.
Specifically, I’m fascinated with the power of repetition -- how something large can be made up of many small things. By working with everyday materials (army men, sequins, thread, paper, etc.) I impress upon the fact that our daily actions effect the larger picture of our lives while my use of intricate and tedious processes suggests that life is a journey that shouldn't be rushed.
I believe in the importance of sharing meaningful experiences because the things we go through are shared by many. At times we may think we have had this experience that no one else can relate to, only to realize many people share this experience in their own unique way. The purpose of my work is to bridge this communication gap and make connections with viewers. In essence, my work acts as a mirror saying: I’ve been there, too.
My personal and educational life instilled within me a love for diversity. I believe in breaking the confines of using one type or style of art – art should be driven by the idea behind it. In my work, I utilize whichever process and material is best suited for the idea.
